Steep Your Faith

Updated: 2 days ago

Over the past few years I have discovered a new found love for tea. Tea was never something I was too fond of, but now I absolutely love it. Whether it is having a cup of green tea in the morning with breakfast as I start my day, or having a cup of chamomile tea in the evening while curled up with a good book - tea has now become a staple in my daily routine.

When making tea, the tea bag is not just dipped in the water quickly and then taken out, that would make for a very dull and flavorless cup of tea. But instead, the tea bag has to steep in the water for at least a few minutes, allowing the tea to infuse itself into the water and produce a deeper flavor.

The other day while I was making a cup of tea, I was reminded about how our faith is like making a cup of tea. If we just take a “dip” into faith, if we only pray when we need something, only attend church occasionally, only go to God when facing tough times, we will never be able to have a relationship with God in the way he intended us to. Our faith and our journey with God must “steep” in order for us to fully experience him. He wants us to seek him daily, he wants us to find community with others who are walking along the faith journey, he wants us to come to him in the good times and the bad times. God yearns for a deep relationship with us, and by spending more time with him and “steeping” in his presence and in his word, it will grow our faith.

Now, when I make a cup of tea, it is always a reminder for me to “steep” in his presence and seek him.

Journal Prompt - In what ways are you really good at “steeping your faith”? In what ways could you be better at it? Think about some ways you can continue to “steep your faith” and seek God.

“But from there, you will search for the Lord your God, and you will find him when you seek him with all your heart and all your soul.”

Deuteronomy 4:29

Prayers & Love Always

One way that has helped me seek God daily is following the She Reads Truth study books. These study books have daily readings that can be done in community or on your own. They also have He Reads Truth for the men in your life, and Kids Read Truth for the kids in your life, so everyone can read together! These study books have been a great daily guide for me, so check them out for yourself if you would like!
